Historical Description

Llanarmon-Mynydd-Mawr, a parish in Chirk hundred, county of Denbigh, is 10 miles east of Oswestry and 6 north of Llanfyllin station, the terminus of the Llanmynech and Llanfyllin branch of the Cambrian railway, in Llanrhaiadr sub-registration district, Llanfyllin union, county-court district and rural deanery, archdeaconry of Montgomery, diocese of St. Asaph; the parish is near the southernmost extremity of the county, and comprises chiefly undulating country. The church is dedicated to St. Garmon, and provides sittings for 84. The registers of baptisms date from the year 1720; burials, 1736; marriages, 1754. The living is a vicarage, net yearly income £67, in the gift of the vicar of Llanrhaiadr-yn-Mochnant, and held since 1881 by the Rev. Thomas James B. A. of St. David’s College, Lampeter.

The area comprises 2,218 acres, of which 4 are water; the population in 1891 was 129.
